Why Your Network Marketing Business is Vulnerable if You DO NOT Build Online

(Please enjoy this Guest Blog Post by Ferny Ceballos)

Let me put it bluntly…

In today’s age, you could lose your network marketing income overnight.

If—that is—you’re NOT building your business online.

And despite what many industry ‘dinosaurs’ would have you believe, you shouldn’t place all your “eggs in one basket.”

We’ll talk more about what this means in a moment.

First, if you’re reading this today, you probably know that ‘old-school’ network marketing is tired, overdone, and simply ridiculous given the ultra-connected possibilities of prospecting via social media.

But before you read any further, it would be irresponsible of me not to address one of the biggest hurdles many networkers face, which is the very company they represent.

Your company matters!

Yes, there are companies that are friendly to building online.

But, quite frankly, there are many companies that are not.

And some companies are simply NOT going to be a good fit for building online.

Especially if you’re going to build a brand or sell other things, outside of your network marketing distributorship.

Your company may want to exert control over what you’re doing, so you must be able to identify that before you start.

Always make your business decisions knowing that some companies simply do not want you to build online and will fight you every step of the way.

So choose wisely when it comes to your opportunity!

Again, some companies may have rules or policies that are friendly to building online, or building a brand, or building other businesses while you’re signed up with them.

But for other companies, their rules vary and can even be extremely arbitrary.

Things are not always as they appear!

And it’s a sad fact that they can throw their rules out altogether and say…

“Hey, we just don’t like you, so you’re gone.”

All network marketing companies have the power to terminate you!

…at any time, if they choose to do so.

Basically, they have more lawyers and money than you do.

Without naming names…

All you have to do is look at the biggest company in this industry globally, and see how they’ve gone after their members viciously, and drowned them under a lot of debt, through nothing more than just the legal process.

They don’t even go all the way to court in these cases.

So the bottom line is this…

If you’re only doing network marketing, you don’t have true independence!

Regardless of your company’s policies…

You don’t own anything!

You’re not independent.

If you look at the Kiyosaki’s “Cashflow Quadrant,” you are basically an Employee.

And to get to the the other side of the Quadrant, you…

Have to actually own the business, and you must create your own products or services, and do your own marketing.

You have to own your own corporation.

And with network marketing, you don’t own anything, so you’re not even Self-Employed!

Because if somebody’s Self-Employed, like a chiropractor, they have…

  • A building or an office
  • Trade equipment
  • Their own intellectual property, regarding how they run their business
  • A corporation

So they own something.

In network marketing, you don’t even have that.

You could argue that in network marketing, you’re stuck between being an Employee and being Self-Employed.

You are an Employee, because essentially you’re getting paid commission for sales that you make.

Thus, you’re not a salary-based Employee, but you’re a commission-based Employee.

You’re just a salesman

The bottom line is—you don’t own anything!

So, that being said…

How do you create real security in network marketing?

How do you diversify so you’re not vulnerable?

Well, there are three forms of security for your business.

And we’re going to talk about each of those strategies, starting with…

Multiple streams of income means earning money from different sources, so you’re not vulnerable if your company goes away (or you have a falling out with the leadership).

It happens all the time.

Maybe your company…

  • Changes their commission plan
  • Chooses to merge with another company that has a different commission plan
  • Gets shut down by the FTC (which has happened)

Whatever the scenario, if you have multiple streams of income through an online brand, where you’re monetizing people via a different sources, you’ll survive.

Note that I’m not talking about cross-recruiting.

Because you’re building a following outside of your network marketing business.

Say, if you monetize through affiliate programs or your own products, then it’s your own following you’ve built.

The benefit of multiple streams of income is obvious.

Look, it’s hard to rebuild quickly if your business is completely offline-based.

I’ve seen a lot of seven-figure earners who lost their income struggled to rebuild because they built offline, a long time ago, and it’s difficult to rebuild the same way.

They don’t even remember what they did, and now they’re trying to figure out how their business fits into this new landscape, as it relates to today’s technology.

But if you’ve built online then you’ve learned skillsets that are more efficient and work faster.

Plus, people can duplicate those skillsets better, whether it’s social media, or other online methods.

Most importantly, you have a following that allows you to rebuild quickly if you ever lose your income.

And guess what?

I’m betting on the people building online through social media recruiting versus the people building by stalking people at the mall, any day of the week.

Learning true business fundamentals means you can apply these skills to ANY business or venture.

And by having such skillsets you can move into another business, in another industry, and still use the same skills.

So, let’s say you decide…

“You know what? I only got into network marketing because I wanted financial freedom, not because I was particularly passionate about network marketing. I’m still not passionate about it, however, it was a necessary stepping-stone for me to move towards building my REAL dream business.”

I’ve seen many people move on to other ventures.

And they’re able to successfully build businesses in a different field, such as the health industry, or real estate.

They took the skillsets they learned while building their network marketing business online, and applied them to other businesses.

Using the very same skills they learned from people like myself and my colleagues in the online world, they went on to create their dream business, which is fantastic to see!

That is true independence!

True independence is having the option to pursue anything you want to pursue and being completely unrestricted.

That’s not something you have when you’re building a traditional business in network marketing.

Say you’re making $25,000 a month in network marketing and something happens; suddenly that income is in jeopardy.

You want to be able to build a new business from scratch QUICKLY.

And you can!

…if you learn the skillsets to build your business online.

To recap:

Your business isn’t vulnerable if you…

  1. Create multiple streams of income
  2. Know how to rebuild efficiently and faster with methods that can be duplicated online
  3. Learn skills that allow you to build any business

Following these strategies will give you true security and allow you to pursue your dreams.
